What happens after you have your breast implants removed? Watch our newest video with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ravi Somayazula as he explores the recent work done for a female patient who wanted breast implant revision after having hers removed after almost 15 years. There are numerous reasons a patient might choose to have breast implants removed, while most are designed to last up to 20 years before needing to be replaced.
What Happens During Breast Implant Revision?
For this particular patient, the removal created significant scarring and folds in the soft tissue envelope of the breasts. This typically occurs as the skin stretches over the breast implant for numerous years—similar to the excess skin you might see after significant weight loss. Feeling beautiful and confident in your skin is essential. The breasts and chest area tend to be one of the most common causes of concern we hear about from clients.
But our patient also had other concerns. She carried extra weight around her outer and inner thighs—an area she also wanted to address. Dr. Ravi addressed both of her issues: Revising the scarring and tissue folds caused by the implant removal and contouring the upper thighs for a trimmer look. That excess fat would become the perfect natural filler to rebuild her breasts.
Rebuilding with Fat Grafting and Breast Augmentation
In this combined procedure, Dr. Ravi used liposuction to remove her excess thigh fat in a thigh contouring procedure. He also performed a breast augmentation and placed IDEAL implants, a type of structured saline breast implant. Then, through a harvesting and purification process, Dr. Ravi performed a fat grafting procedure using the patient’s own thigh fat to help smooth and round out the patient’s chest.
The procedure left Dr. Ravi’s patient with full, rounded breasts with a very natural look. She also benefited from a more sculpted and trimmed appearance around the thighs. Combining procedures allowed her to maximize her results and minimize down time post-procedure.
