AAAASF Accreditation
Established in 1980, the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) has been tasked with accrediting hundreds of outpatient surgical centers in the United States and beyond. Considered the “Gold Standard in Accreditation,” AAAASF holds outpatient surgical facilities to the same standards as hospitals and has been integral in standardizing patient care and improving the safety and quality of outpatient facilities.
Houston Plastic Surgery Center, the on-site surgical center at Body by Ravi Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, has received accreditation through AAAASF. This means we have:
- Met the strict safety standards set by AAAASF
- Met the requirements for facility directors, medical specialist board certification, and staff credentials
- Met the requirement to be fully equipped to perform all advertised surgical procedures
To obtain AAAASF accreditation, our surgical suite was first inspected by one of the organization’s surveyors. Continued accreditation requires yearly re-evaluations and an on-site survey every three years.
Failure to meet the standards set by the AAAASF will result in disciplinary action up to and including a loss of accreditation. To prevent this and help protect each of our patients, we are dedicated to continually meeting the rigorous and inflexible standards established by the AAAASF.
A Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ravi has always been held to a higher standard. Board-certified plastic surgeons must meet the requirements set by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, the only certifying body for plastic surgeons that has been approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
While no small feat in and of itself, being board-certified does not require having a private surgical suite. With our accredited on-site operating room, Dr. Ravi joins the exclusive ranks of plastic surgeons who are able to offer this safe and convenient option to patients. During your time in our care, we will be happy to provide additional information about the qualifications of our surgeons and staff.
In addition to meeting the standards for AAAASF accreditation, Dr. Ravi consistently meets the patient safety standards of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Aesthetic Society (ASAPS).
About Our Operating Room
Our on-site surgical center is approximately 2000 square feet, giving us enough space for a large operating room along with four pre and postoperative bays. All of our cosmetic surgeries, including minimally-invasive procedures such as BodyTite and FaceTite, are performed in our surgical suite, where your comfort and safety are constantly monitored by our highly trained staff.
In attendance for all surgical procedures are a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in plastic surgery, a scrub tech and surgical assistant with over 15 years of experience in plastic surgery, and a medical assistant with over five years of experience in plastic surgery. Anesthesia is administered by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologists who, like all of our staff, has experience specifically in plastic surgery.
Dr. Ravi is currently the only plastic surgeon performing treatments in our operating room.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the difference between an outpatient surgery center and a hospital?
Ambulatory surgery centers, more commonly known as outpatient surgery centers, are licensed operating rooms designed for treatments that will not require an overnight stay. Hospitals are much larger than ambulatory surgery centers and better equipped to deal with major surgeries that will necessitate heightened monitoring and longer stays.
-
Does AAAASF Accreditation meet current state hospital standards?
To obtain AAAASF accreditation, an outpatient facility must meet the same standards as hospitals. To maintain accreditation, these same patient safety and care standards must be upheld at all times.
-
Are in-office procedures the same as outpatient procedures?
Outpatient procedures are completed during a single visit and do not require an extended stay. This can absolutely include in-office treatments, such as dermal fillers, but at Body by Ravi Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, a majority of procedures are performed in our surgical suite.
-
My procedure will not require anesthesia. Will it be performed in your surgical suite?
All of the breast, body, and face procedures offered by Dr. Ravi are performed in our surgical center. This includes procedures that can be done with local anesthesia as well as those that will require general anesthesia for optimal comfort.
-
Who administers anesthesia?
We have a Board-Certified Anesthesiologists on staff who administers and oversees anesthesia. Vitals, while under general anesthesia, are monitored by this medical professional and our registered nurse.
-
Can accreditation be taken away?
Accreditation through the AAAASF requires a yearly self-evaluation and a visit from an AAAASF surveyor every three years. Failure to uphold the standards of the AAAASF will result in a 30 day grace period to amend the problem. If safety or ethics concerns continue, accreditation will be taken away.
-
How can I tell if your accreditation is current?
We display our accreditation certificate with great pride and are fully committed to upholding all of the patient care and safety standards established by the state, our certifying boards, and the AAAASF. However, if you have questions about our facility and accreditation, we encourage you to contact the AAAASF directly for verification. We encourage this no matter who you are going to for your treatment.
