Fat Grafting (Fat Transfer)
Fat transfer, or fat grafting, is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure. It involves removing excess fat from one or several areas of the body and purifying that donor fat to inject into other areas that need extra volume and contour enhancement. By using one’s own fat supply, the results are natural, with no need for implants. Dr. Ravi performs fat transfer in Houston and Sugar Land to shape and renew both facial and body areas.Common areas for fat transfer:
- Natural Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer
- Brazilian Butt Lift
- Calf Fat Transfer
- Facial Fat Transfer
- Hand Rejuvenation
During the initial consultation, Dr. Ravi will gather all pertinent medical history and spend time having an honest conversation about your individual concerns and realistic goals. He will discuss in detail what donor sites will be most desirable for fat removal. A customized plan will be formulated for each patient’s unique situation. A candidates should have a stable body weight with enough fat for successful transfer and should be a non-smoker.
Dr. Ravi will generally combine the use of injectables and fillers along with fat transfer to the face for better outcomes. With aging, we naturally lose fat in our faces which leads to sagging and a deflated look. The lips, smile lines, corners of the mouth, and under the eyes and the chin are the most commonly corrected areas.
All patients will be seen approximately two weeks prior to surgery for their pre-operative appointment. At that time, surgical consents are signed, photos are taken, and an informational packet is provided which details instructions for before and after surgery.
The Natural Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer is an outpatient procedure performed at a credentialed hospital with a board certified anesthesiologist. Smaller fat transfer procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, whereas larger grafting procedures require the use of general anesthesia. First, tumescent liposuction of excess fat--most commonly from the back, abdomen, thighs, and flanks--is performed. That harvested fat is then purified. The remaining fat is carefully injected into the desired areas and manipulated until the right result is attained.
After the procedure, the areas of fat removal will remain swollen with potential for bruising and discomfort for only a few days. Patients spend one to two days resting and are generally able to return to normal activities in one week. Strenuous activities should be avoided for three weeks.
Combine with other procedures
Depending on the goal outcome, fat grafting can be combined with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck or breast augmentation.
