Vaser Lipo vs. Traditional Lipo

12/15/2019 Liposuction is used to remove excess fat from the body. Effective on nearly any body part, liposuction entails the creation of an incision through which a small tube (cannula) can be inserted to break apart and remove stubborn deposits of fat.
During traditional liposuction, fat deposits are loosened with the cannula itself. This helps ensure the complete removal of fat and helps produce ideally contoured results. Many plastic surgeons use tumescent fluids during traditional liposuction to improve patient comfort and reduce trauma to surrounding tissue. Primarily containing lidocaine, a localized anesthesia, and epinephrine, a vasoconstrictor, tumescent fluids may also be used during other types of liposuction, including Vaser lipo.
Vaser Liposuction
During fat removal with Vaser lipo, a small probe that transmits ultrasound energy is used to break apart deposits of fat prior to their removal. This probe helps emulsify the fat, allowing for its complete elimination from the body.
Vaser lipo uses both tumescent fluids and ultrasound energy to improve comfort and results. Because the cannula is used to remove, but not to break apart fat deposits, the incisions used for this type of liposuction are typically much smaller, which may help reduce risks of infection, excessive bleeding, and visible scars.
Patients may experience less bruising, less postoperative discomfort, and more consistent results with the Vaser liposuction technique. Designed to minimize trauma to surrounding blood vessels, tissue, and muscle, this technique gives your plastic surgeon more control over results and is best at producing fine definition and tone. Vaser lipo can also be used on larger areas of the body, making it ideal for fat removal from areas including the abdomen and flanks.
