It Is Possible to Rebuild Collagen with Sculptra®

As of late, collagen has become a bit of a buzzword in the beauty world. For good reason! Collagen is a key, naturally-occurring structural component and is fundamental to our skin’s elasticity and well as facial volume. When young and collagen is plentiful, the face is rounder and the overlying skin appears firm and taut. Collagen plays a very important structural role by adding volume to the underlying tissue. You’ve probably noticed that with age comes volume loss in multiple areas of the face. This sunken in appearance causes a more aged appearance as well as looseness of the overlying skin. The main culprit of this is a decrease in naturally produced collagen as we age.
This loss of collagen is one of the biggest factors affecting our appearance as we get older. Sadly, this is part of the normal aging process and something we cannot avoid—starting at the age of 20, our skin produces about one percent less collagen each year. Slowing collagen production leads to the eventual development of wrinkles, sagging skin, and volume loss.
Sculptra Addresses Collagen Loss Head On
Dermal fillers have long been a patient and physician favorite in that they help restore fullness that was caused from decreased collagen production. This added volume helps plump up the underlying tissue and improves the appearance of deep lines with an overall smoothing of skin. Hyaluronic Acid based dermal fillers, including Juvéderm® and Voluma®, have long been the most common ways of restoring youthful fullness to the face and in turn, tighten sagging skin and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
Today we have more options, and potentially ones that may benefit you more so than the previous gold standard Hyaluronic Acid based fillers. Sculptra is unique in that it actually stimulates the body’s own natural collagen production. The key to Sculptra’s success is the synthetic polymer, poly-l-lactic acid, when absorbed gradually stimulates collagen production. The important difference to know between dermal fillers and Sculptra is that Sculptra promotes your body to produce volume building collagen whereas dermal fillers temporarily add volume. The result is not immediate, however the amount of added volume is potentially greater and longer lasting.

Results with Sculptra are Gradual but Long Lasting
Results with Sculptra are slower to be seen because it works by reinforcing the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Whereas results with other dermal fillers are nearly-immediate, the effects of Sculptra take time. Generally two to three treatments are performed over the course of a few months in order to build up the tissue as needed. While the results may take patience, they last! At upwards of two years, the results with Sculptra last far longer than with other injectable dermal fillers and the results are natural.
