How to Prepare For Your Breast AugmentationJune 8, 2021
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures at Body by Ravi Plastic Surgery. At your consultation, Dr. Ravi will discuss with you if you are a good candidate for the procedure as well as discussing the few and low likely risks involved. One of the most effective ways to guard against these potentialities is through close adherence to the pre and postoperative directions provided by our office. While these will be covered in detail before your procedure, below are some basic steps that will be useful in preparation for your breast augmentation procedure.
Four Weeks Before Surgery
If you are a smoker, you will need to stop using products with nicotine at least four weeks before your procedure. This includes smokeless tobacco and e-cigarettes. Also, avoid second-hand smoke.
Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor that causes your blood vessels to shrink. Because of that, you may receive less of the needed nutrients to fast-track the body’s healing response. Tobacco use also increases risks for infection and may result in thick, visible scars. To fully prevent these risks, you will need to avoid nicotine for at least four weeks post-surgery as well.
Contacting friends or family members who can help out around the house is a good idea well in advance of surgery. You will need someone to be around for at least 24 hours after anesthesia for your safety. Having help from a trusted adult will allow you to more fully recuperate.
With Dr. Ravi’s signature Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation techniques, most women can resume work within one to three days. Don’t forget to schedule any time off that you will need.
One Week Before Surgery
Dr. Ravi will recommend you stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and similar NSAIDs two weeks before surgery. These medications can thin the blood and result in excessive bleeding and bruising. Some herbs, supplements, and medications will need to be stopped at this time as well. We will review the products and prescriptions you take to help you determine which should be postponed until after your procedure.
It is a good idea to create a comfortable space to rest following surgery around a week before your procedure. Think about books and periodicals you may want to read, and any shows you may want to binge while you rest. Having a comfortable space ready to go as soon as you get home can help to enhance your recovery experience. You will need to sleep at about a 45-degree angle for the first few days and only on your back for about 6 weeks to let your new breasts fully heal.
