What are the Phases of Healing with Microneedling?

The Microneedling Process
During the microneedling procedure at our office, the SkinPen® is moved evenly over the treatment area, creating thousands of precise micro-injuries to the uppermost layer of the dermis and spontaneously triggering the synthesis of new collagen – all without forming scar tissue. Extensive training by our aestheticians allows for controlled induction of the skin’s own self-repair process.
The actual procedure takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area, the number of areas treated, and the severity of existing damage to the skin.
While often used for facial skin, the variable depth (.25mm to 2.5mm) of SkinPen® provides flexibility to create specific changes in multiple areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back. We are here to assess your areas of concern and help you determine if microneedling will be able to meet your needs.
Microneedling is performed after treatment with a topical numbing cream, which helps guard against discomfort. The procedure is not considered painful and is well tolerated by a majority of patients.
As a nonsurgical procedure, microneedling will require little if any downtime. Some redness and swelling may be present in the treatment area and the skin may feel tight, but these things tend to self-resolve within a few days.
Pinpoint bleeding is possible with some levels of treatment. This stops almost immediately and will slough off with dead skin cells once dry. It is important that you do not pick at the treatment area during the healing phase.
Taking care of your skin after microneedling is important both for you comfort and for better results. During your time in our care, we will make sure you understand all pre and post-treatment instructions to help ensure your continued comfort.
The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient and depends on their unique needs. At your consultation, we will provide a customized plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals.
SkinPen® is safe and effective for all skin types. Minimally invasive and nonsurgical, microneedling requires little preparation and will not interfere with normal activities. Some minor discomfort is possible following treatment, but this is easily dealt with through proper skin care.

YOUR Kybella® Consultation and Examination
Prior to your first Kybella® session, a private consultation will be scheduled with Dr. Ravi or Dr. Gopathi. This time will be devoted to understanding your aesthetic needs and desires, so plan on your consultation taking from 30 minutes to one hour. During this appointment, your surgeon will examine your chin, jawline, and submental fat. Dr. Ravi and Dr. Gopathi take their time discussing all of your options, including Kybella® and other noninvasive treatments such as FaceTite or Morpheus8.
Once Kybella® has been determined the best procedure for your needs, the surgeon will explain your treatment plan. The kybella® treatment session
Once checked in for your appointment, you will be taken back to a comfortable, private treatment room. While Kybella® is not considered painful, each small injection may sting or pinch.
Dr. Ravi and Dr. Gopathi will apply Kybella® through a series of small injections placed underneath the chin along the target areas. Each injection site is predetermined, marked using a specially created template to ensure an even and well-balanced treatment of the underlying fat cells. Getting Back to normal after kybella®
After your Kybella® procedure, you may experience mild swelling, bruising, numbness, tenderness, or redness in the treated area. These side-effects are short-lived and will diminish over the next five to seven to ten days. Most swelling will improve in one to two weeks. It is also common to experience areas of hardness along the injection area for some time; however, this is a sign that the treatment is working. More serious complications such as facial asymmetry, nerve damage, and infection are extremely rare. It is important, however, that patients always put their trust in a board-certified physician, experienced with Kybella® and other noninvasive treatments.
Kybella® is a minimally invasive procedure, so you may return to work immediately after your injections. There are no restrictions on activities or makeup. However, patients should avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24-48 hours to reduce the chance for swelling.
The results from Kybella® are not immediate. Over time, you will begin to notice a decrease in the fullness of your chin as Kybella® begins to take effect. The most significant results can typically be seen after your second session; however, some patients may require up to five treatments.
The fat cells that are destroyed and eliminated by Kybella® are gone forever and cannot reform. For this reason, you can depend on Kybella® to offer results that last for years to come. Keep in mind, the surrounding fat cells can still expand with weight gain. With a healthy lifestyle, you can maintain long-lasting results and a well-defined appearance of the chin and jawline.

Who is a Good Candidate?
Anyone who is concerned about excessive underarm sweating, shirt stains, sticky and uncomfortable feeling beneath the arms, or bad odor might be a good candidate for miraDry®. MiraDry® is a toxin-free treatment that can help stop sweating and prevent stains and odors. During your miraDry® session, the customized treatment area is marked to ensure accuracy. Dr. Ravi Somayazula will then numb the armpits for increased comfort during treatment. Once numbed, the miraDry® handpiece is placed directly on the skin of the treatment site, lining up with the prepared marks. The handpiece is then activated, suctioning the section of skin upwards to bring the underlying sweat glands closer to the surface for optimal results. miraWave™ energy (which is electromagnetic energy) will be delivered through the miraDry® handpiece to safely destroy the underlying sweat and odor glands without harming the surrounding skin or tissue.

How Many miraDry Treatments Will I Need?
You can expect a reduction in sweat and odor following just one miraDry treatment. However, a second treatment may be needed for optimal results. We can determine if a second treatment will be required during your follow-up visits.
Follow-up miraDry treatments typically take place as soon as three months after the initial treatment, giving us time to assess progress and suggest the best treatment options.
Don’t I Need Sweat Glands?
Yes, you need sweat glands. Sweat glands are essential for maintaining a consistent body temperature. miraDry does not interfere with this critical process.
Humans have between two to four million sweat glands. Only around two percent of those are found in the armpits. miraDry targets sweat glands in the armpits to permanently reduce underarm sweat and odor. Your remaining sweat glands will continue to perform their function without interruption.
There are not any health risks associated with sweat reduction.
What Is the Downtime After miraDry?
There is minimal downtime following miraDry treatment. There may be some soreness and swelling for a few days after treatment with miraDry, but most people resume their daily activities right away. Swelling and residual soreness will subside on their own, along with any numbness or changes in sensation that may have occurred. Prolonged loss of sensation is extremely rare. However, we will discuss this risk in greater detail during your initial consultation.
Is miraDry Covered by Insurance?
miraDry is considered cosmetic and may not be covered by most insurance plans. However, patients have independently contacted their insurance companies directly to determine any insurance benefits, but the practice does not process miraDry through insurance.
We believe everyone is entitled to feel cleaner and more confident and are pleased to offer several payment options for this treatment. We accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. We also work with third-party financing companies Care Credit®, and ALPHAEON™ to finance miraDry procedures. Does miraDry Stop Odor?
The apocrine glands produce odorous sweat in the armpit. miraDry eliminates apocrine glands and, in so doing, significantly reduces body odor.
Do Sweat Glands Grow Back?
Sweat glands do not regenerate following miraDry treatment. Nor do new sweat glands grow in the treatment area. The reduction in sweat glands achieved through miraDry treatment is permanent.
Recovery
There is no downtime associated with miraDry®, and you will experience results immediately. Most patients can return to normal activities and work immediately after the procedure and can resume exercising within a few days. It is normal to have localized soreness and swelling which will gradually improve over time. A few patients may experience temporary numbness or altered sensation of their underarms or upper arms, which will also improve with time. MiraDry® is designed to provide men and women with long-lasting results to combat problems associated with excessive underarm sweating.

MiraDry® is a cutting-edge treatment designed to permanently reduce unwanted underarm sweat. Safe and effective, miraDry® is the only noninvasive treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to eliminate targeted sweat glands under the arms.
As opposed to other practices, our Board Certified physicians will be performing your entire procedure. Dr. Ravi will first apply a local anesthetic under the arms, for maximum patient comfort. Next, using the unique miraDry® handpiece, focused wavelengths of thermal energy will be used to target the predetermined sweat glands under the arms. The penetrating energy only affects a specific area of the deep tissue, safely destroying the sweat glands, while the surrounding skin stays cool. Each miraDry® sessions take about an hour and a half.
While the benefits of miraDry® may not seen right away, over the following weeks, the glands responsible for perspiration will slowly cease to function. Patients will note the full results of miraDry® in six to twelve weeks. On average, most people will see up to an 82% reduction in sweat, although this will vary according to the individual.
The treated sweat glands do not return, meaning the benefits from miraDry® are permanent. Most patients only need a single treatment, however in some instances, a second miraDry® procedure may be recommended for optimal results.
