Breast Augmentation surgery with breast implants continues to be a very popular surgery in Houston, one that is performed by our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ravi Somayazula hundreds of times a year. A very common question we get asked is what the cost of a breast augmentation is. The answer dependents on many factors and includes many options.
If you desire a larger and shapelier bust but are averse to having foreign objects (breast implants) placed into your body, breast augmentation with fat transfer may be the exact solution you have been looking for. With this procedure, Dr. Ravi uses fat taken from your own body to gently enhance and reshape the breasts, producing results that both look and feel entirely natural.
On July 24th, Allergan issued a voluntary recall of its BIOCELL® textured breast implants. This recall follows growing concern over the link between textured implants and breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare but deadly form of cancer. The recall is for breast implants that have not been placed, but women who currently have textured breast implants should understand their options as well. Every type of breast surgery will require incisions. Caring for your incisions is essential to reduce visible scarring. There are several things that will need to be done to keep your incisions clean and dry – not the least of which is avoiding the bathtub, swimming pools, or any other body of water that would allow your incisions to be submerged. 02/15/19Breast augmentation can improve the appearance of the entire upper body. Used to produce ideal symmetry, projection, and contours, breast augmentation can create enticing proportions, improve clothing options, and help a positive self-image.

If you are unhappy with the size, shape, projection, or appearance of your breasts, now may be the best time to talk to Dr. Ravi about breast augmentation. We offer a range of options, including breast augmentation through fat transfer that can be used to customize your breast enhancement for the most natural-looking and complementary results.
What to Know About Recovery
Recovery from breast augmentation occurs in stages. During the first week or so, you should plan on taking it easy. Avoiding physically demanding tasks and primarily resting will be best during this time. You will need to avoid soaking your incisions, so bathing and swimming will be prohibited during this stage. You will not be able to soak the incisions until they have healed – which may take six to eight weeks.
Dr. Ravi performs electrocautery of the blood vessels during breast augmentation. While more time consuming, this surgical technique reduces trauma and minimizes post-operative bruising, swelling, and pain. Taking this step helps ensure your recovery will be as short and comfortable as possible, but swelling may continue to produce asymmetrical results for a few weeks. During this time, your breast implants will be settling into their pockets. Once settled, your breasts should take on their new look. This process can take several weeks.
Because recovery can take several weeks and, during that time, swelling and symmetry may be present, having breast augmentation performed during the cooler months, when more clothing is worn, may be best. In this way, by the time summer rolls around, you will be ready to shed clothes and show your new contours to the world. What’s more, having breast augmentation now will allow you to go swimming by summer, helping ensure you are able to enjoy all that the season has to offer.
