How Long Until I Can Take a Bath After Breast Surgery?

Every type of breast enhancement surgery will require incisions. Caring for your incisions is essential to reduce visible scarring. There are several things that will need to be done to keep your incisions clean and dry – not the least of which is avoiding the bathtub, swimming pools, or any other body of water that would allow your incisions to be submerged.

It can take about 48 hours for breast surgery incisions to close completely. During this time, even showering should be avoided to help prevent their reopening, which could lead to complications including infection or the development of thicker scars. As such, it is best to avoid showering within the first 48 hours of your breast enhancement procedure as well.

Many women find they have recovered sufficiently to take baths by week two or three. During your follow up visits at our Houston plastic surgery center, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ravi Somayazula will assess how well you are recovering and make personalized suggestions based on what is best at each stage of incision healing. We typically recommend that you should not take a bath until that incision is fully recovered, which is at six weeks.

Caring for Your Breast Surgery Incisions

While showering may need to be avoided for 48 hours and bathing for six weeks, it is important that you keep your incisions clean at all times during the recovery period. While the incisions are healing, this can be done with a soft cloth, sponge, or piece of gauze that has been wetted with warm water. Using a mild and non-irritating soap, gently clean the skin surrounding the incision. Be careful not to agitate or rub the incision itself.

We will provide you with specific instructions and gentle guidance during your time in our care to help make this process easier.

You can further care for your incisions after breast surgery by:

  • Avoiding all forms of nicotine. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. It will cause thicker scars
  • Avoiding activities that could cause the incisions to separate or stretch
  • Carefully following all of our pre and postoperative directions

You may need to stop taking certain medications, supplements, or herbs before your procedure to help reduce risks. These same products may need to be avoided during your recovery phase as well. All of this will be discussed in greater detail during your initial consultation at our Houston office.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation in Houston Cost?

Breast Augmentation surgery with breast implants continues to be a very popular surgery in Houston, one that is performed by our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ravi Somayazula hundreds of times a year.  A very common question we get asked is what the cost of a Breast Augmentation is. The answer depends on many factors and includes many options.

Breast Augmentation Silicone vs Saline: How to Choose

Deciding which implant is best for your breast augmentation can be difficult. That’s why we’re sharing a few key differences between the two options, so you can decide which implant is right for you.

What Are The Differences Between Silicone and Saline?

Appearance

Silicone implants look and feel more natural than saline implants due to their teardrop shape and gel consistency. Saline implants are round and, although they do not look as natural as regular breasts, they are popular choices for women due to the striking physique they create.

Dr. Ravi uses only IDEAL IMPLANT® for saline implant procedures. The IDEAL IMPLANT is a hybrid of silicone and saline. It is an “ideal” choice if you want a breast lift and augmentation.

Potential Health Risks

Implants can rupture. An IDEAL IMPLANT consists of sterilized water and salt. Should it rupture, there are no known health risks. In fact, a 2017 survey reported that 91% of the women polled would prefer saline implants to rupture inside of their breasts instead of silicone implants.

Silicone implants have a gel interior. These implants aren’t known to cause health problems. However, if a silicone implant ruptures, you’re likely to feel breast pain and see breast thickening.

Repair Necessity

When a silicone implant ruptures, surgery is usually necessary. You will require surgery if the rupture causes breast deformity or thickening. However, surgery is not standard for a ruptured IDEAL IMPLANT. Instead, the solution safely absorbs into your body.

Which One Is Right for Me?

Are you still uncertain about which implant is best for you? Do not worry; it is normal to be indecisive. Speaking with an experienced plastic surgeon will help you realize whether silicone or the IDEAL IMPLANT is right for you. Calling Dr. Ravi Somayazula “experienced” would be an understatement. He is trained in plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery. This means he’s also educated about how your implants can affect other appearance-enhancing procedures down the road. Furthermore, he specializes in breast augmentation, so he’s best suited to help you choose an implant.

What Are the Most Common Costs Associated With a Breast Augmentation?

09/15/2022
Breast augmentation can improve the breasts’ size, shape, and symmetry. Consistently one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, several different techniques, options, and approaches can influence its cost.

Dr. Ravi Somayazula, a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than a decade of experience, is committed to utilizing the safest, most advanced, and least traumatic breast augmentation techniques available. These include:

  • Keller Funnel® Implant Insertion. Breast implant insertion with the Keller Funnel allows for a “No-Touch Techniques” along with a much smaller incision versus a traditional technique. By using this specialized funnel, the implants never come in contact with the patient’s skin or the gloves of the surgeon. This not only decrease the risks of infection but also is the least traumatic insertion. There have also been studies that indicate the use of the Keller Funnel also minimizes the chances of capsular contracture, which is internal scarring.
  • Exparel® Non-Opioid Analgesic. Dr. Ravi injects Exparel, a local long-acting anesthetic, directly into breast tissue to decrease postoperative discomfort for up to 72 hours. The use of this has allowed our patients to reduce the need for narcotic pain medications following breast augmentation. Exparel® allows for a shorter recovery period as well, with many women able to return to work after three to four days

These advanced, patient-focused options will factor into the total cost of your breast augmentation procedure at Body by Ravi Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics. Additional charges associated with the procedure include:

  • Facility Fees. Dr. Ravi performs breast augmentation in our private, nationally accredited AAAASF surgical facility staffed with highly trained professionals, including specialized plastic surgery nurses, to help ensure patient safety
  • Board-Certified Anesthesiologists Fees. The anesthesiologist overseeing pain management is present throughout the procedure to further ensure patient comfort and safety

Breast Implant Placement

Dr. Ravi uses FDA-approved breast implants for all augmentation procedures. These can be inserted over or under the muscles in the chest, depending on factors, such as how much breast tissue is present, that are unique to the patient. Where implants are inserted can influence the length of surgery and may have a negligible impact on breast augmentation costs.

We offer both silicone and saline round breast implants to ensure optimal personalization. The types of breast implant selected will also have an impact on the total cost of your procedure.

Silicone implants that Dr. Ravi chooses to work with are the full line Allergan Natrelle Gel Implants. These include the responsive, soft touch and cohesive gel implants. Costs do vary with these. During your consultation specific measurements are taken by Dr. Ravi himself to determine size, projection and placement.

Dr. Ravi is a trusted and award-winning plastic surgeon who takes the time to discuss all options and provide detailed information about procedural costs to help ensure patients are making the best decisions for their needs. How Can You Get The Best Mommy Makeover Results?

05/04/2022

Mommy makeover surgery helps to improve physical comfort and overall appearance following pregnancy. Many changes, including the accumulation of additional fat, stretching of the skin, and temporary enlargement of the breasts, can result in lumpy and uneven portions of the body, areas with loose and hanging skin, stretch marks, and deflated and asymmetrical breasts.

Mommy makeover surgery combines specific procedures to help enhance the entire frame. In the hands of a qualified and experienced surgeon, the procedure can have a profoundly positive impact on your self-esteem and confidence.

Choosing the Best Practice for Your Procedure

The first step in obtaining the best mommy makeover results is choosing the right plastic surgery practice for your procedure. Before you commit to a surgeon, do your research to make sure that:

  • The surgeon is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)
  • The procedure will be performed in an accredited surgical facility
  • The techniques used are advanced and efficacious, and as minimally invasive as possible
  • Follow up visits are included in the cost of your procedure

When you are selecting a surgeon, take time to ask all of your questions and carefully gauge the surgeon’s responses. Be sure also to look at before and after photos and to read patient reviews, both online and on the doctor’s website, to get a better understanding of the way they treat their patients and their overall skill.

If you feel at all dissatisfied or uncomfortable with a surgeon, move on. Mommy makeover surgery is a big commitment. Selecting the right surgeon helps to ensure the most comfortable experience.

Breast Implant Revision: What Are Your Options?

02/20/2022

Breast implant revision is designed to address issues that may arise in the months or even years following breast augmentation. In some cases, these issues are aesthetic, such as asymmetrical results or dissatisfaction with the size, shape, or projection of the implants. Others are related to comfort, such as in cases where capsular contracture has occurred. While much less common, some implants may also require replacement due to developed imperfections like wrinkles and ripples, folds, and deflation.
