Facial (Neck) Liposuction
“Both men and women express their dissatisfaction with unsightly accumulation of fat at their neck leading to a double chin. This can cause their faces to prematurely age as well as give a false sense of being overweight. A neck lift is not appropriate for everyone with this problem and the desired outcome can be accomplished with liposuction alone.” – Dr. Ravi Somayazula

Houston board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ravi Somavazula is here to help with the popular and effective liposuction procedure to reduce unwanted fatty tissue from your face and neck. The same beloved surgery that has helped countless men and women achieve slimmer bodies can be used to refine and rejuvenate the face as well.Facial (neck) Liposuction Can Correct:

- Fat along your neck and jawline
- Other facial fat that cannot be removed by diet and exercise
At the Consultation
Dr. Ravi Somayazula and your patient care coordinator will spend ample time during the initial consultation discussing the various options and techniques, keeping in mind the goals of the individual patient for the appearance of his or her face and neck. A thorough examination will be performed to evaluate the current fatty tissue deposits and skin elasticity. Patients with good skin elasticity could achieve a beautiful contouring of the neck with liposuction alone, but others may require some minor skin tightening. During your consultation, Dr. Somayazula may also recommend Kybella® as an alternative if it is right for you.
Dr. Ravi Somayazula has a great bedside manner and encourages that you become thoroughly informed during the consultation in order to make a decision. Please be sure to set aside an hour to an hour and a half for your appointment.
“The minute I met Dr. Ravi I instantly felt comfortable with him. He has great bedside manners, was very thorough, and really took the time to make sure all of my questions were answered.”
– Donna P., Houston, TX
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Healthy patients with good skin tone and good expectations of the procedure are excellent candidates for facial or neck liposuction. Better outcomes are visible in patients under the age of 40 due to skin elasticity. Dr. Ravi Somayazula recommends that patients be at a stable and healthy weight before considering facial and neck liposuction. As with other fat reduction procedures, facial liposuction is not intended as a solution for obesity or an alternative to diet and exercise.
During your evaluation, all consents are signed, photos are taken, and a detailed informational packet is provided with specific instructions for before and after the liposuction procedure. A complete list of “dos and don’ts” is also reviewed. Patients may receive prescriptions for an antibiotic, as well as pain and anti-nausea medications. Be prepared to follow all recommended pre and post-liposuction instructions closely to ensure you have the best possible results.
Dr. Ravi Somayazula recommends stopping use of aspirin and all other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Ibuprofen) for at least one week before and after liposuction to prevent excessive bruising. Herbs and supplements should also be stopped for at least one week prior to the procedure as this can interrupt healing. All patients are recommended to stop smoking for at least four weeks before the procedure and four weeks after the procedure to minimize healing complications.
The duration of your surgery will depend on the extent of liposuction being performed and whether it is being performed at the same time as another procedure. All operations are performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia at a credentialed hospital with a board certified anesthesiologist. Dr. Ravi Somayazula will make a small incision in the target area where the cannula (small tube used for liposuction) will be inserted. The cannula will be connected to a suction machine to assist with the removal of the unwanted fat cells.
After your facial liposuction procedure, you may notice some scarring from the incision that may be red or raised. The redness and scars will fade over the next couple of months. You may also experience numbness, tingling, or some minor discomfort around the incision area. These symptoms may fade within a couple days.
Over time, any bruising and swelling will dissipate, leaving you with the slimmer profile and well-defined contours you want for your face. Dr. Ravi Somayazula is able to achieve such natural-looking results for his patients in the Houston area that your friends and family will all think the weight came off naturally, unless you let them in on your secret!
