Unfortunately, they are often left with significant excess skin that causes more embarrassment and unhappiness. Understanding proper anatomy to artistically remove the excess skin to remodel the body is key to helping patients regain their confidence.” – Dr. Ravi Somayazula

Who Is a Good Candidate?
The best candidates for this surgery are healthy, non-smoking individuals who have realistic expectations of what a Body Lift can achieve. An ideal candidate does not have any other medical condition that might impair healing or increase their risk of surgery complications. Good candidates for a body lift maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. Most commonly, patients come to Dr. Ravi Somayazula for a body lift to correct the loose skin and tissue that often linger after losing a large amount of weight.
All patients are seen approximately two weeks prior to surgery for their pre-operative appointment. During that visit, all surgical consents are signed, photos are taken, and a detailed informational packet is provided with specific instructions for before and after surgery. A complete list of “dos and don’ts” is also reviewed. Patients receive prescriptions for an antibiotic, as well as pain and anti-nausea medications. Be prepared to follow all recommended pre-surgery and post-surgery instructions closely to ensure your best possible results.
Dr. Ravi recommends stopping the use of aspirin and all other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Ibuprofen) for at least one week before and after surgery to prevent excessive bruising. Herbs and supplements should also be stopped for at least one week prior to surgery as they can interrupt healing. It is recommeneded that all patients stop smoking for at least four weeks before surgery and four weeks after surgery to minimize healing complications.
